Miami International becomes first US Airport to hit 100 airlines

We didn’t notice this at the time but when Finnair returned to Miami International Airport after a long absence (including a period when the airline served Fort Lauderdale instead of Miami) last month, MIA became the first airport in the United States to be served by 100 different airlines.

Flashback Friday: Traveling to Florida in 1974

It was the most progressive era in the state’s history with good government at the forefront and leaders in office who had a vision for the future of the state. The mid-1970s was a golden era in Florida politics and a time when the state was basking in a tourism boom and a positive […]

New boss named for Everglades National Park

Many of our readers probably did not know that Florida has more national parks than any other state east of the Mississippi River – three parks in total, Everglades, Biscayne and the remote Dry Tortugas.  This week, The National Park Service named a new Superintendent for Everglades National Park with responsibilities over Dry Tortugas National […]

JetBlue further expanding Fort Lauderdale operation

JetBlue Airways is further expanding its Fort Lauderdale focus city operation with new nonstop service to Cleveland and Detroit effective April 30. The Cleveland flight will in theory replace United who is dropping the route the same month. Ultra-ow cost carriers Frontier and Spirit also fly the Fort Lauderdale-Cleveland route nonstop. The New York-based carrier (who […]

This was a justified analysis but perhaps an easy one to make particularly sitting in Tallahassee. I, on the other hand, looked at another Interstate Highway, one with far more population neighboring it […]

Tuesday Poll: Should the FDP move its HQ?

In recent weeks in conversations with activists across Florida, I have heard a consistent theme – the Florida Democratic Party is out of touch because its political staff is based in Tallahassee. I was even told this by a well-connected Tallahassee insider. Quite honestly, I found this attitude surprising. Personally, I do not necessarily subscribe […]

Governor Scott’s shallow inaugural appeal

Having been returned to office by Florida’s electorate despite failing to meaningfully grow Florida’s economy in his first term, Governor Rick Scott will appeal to residents to relocate to Florida. Since this Governor and his allies in the legislature proudly gutted the growth management laws that worked for 30 years, a potential influx in population […]
