So much of American political discourse these days focuses on a comparison between Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton’s views of Government.

President Donald Trump’s love of Andrew Jackson, the conqueror of Florida for the United States was no secret. Ron DeSantis has taken the Trumpian model and added a truly Jacksonian level of authoritarianism and public lawlessness to it.

Meanwhile Joe Biden’s long-service and commitment to consensus while being pragmatic is reminiscent of Jackson’s greatest adversary – Henry Clay. But of course Clay was full of contradictions and perhaps Biden is as well?
