Nicole: Hurricane Watches issued for Florida’s east coast – Election Day impacts?

The National Hurricane Center had issued a Hurricane Watch for Brevard, Indian River, St Lucie, Martin, Palm Beach and Broward counties regarding subTropical (at the moment) Storm Nicole. Tropical Storm Watches have been issued for the rest of the Florida east coast as well as Hendy, Highlands, Okeechobee Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties

Modeling indicates the storm is likely to make landfall on east coast early Thursday AM. Below is the Hurricane Center official forecast as well as the latest run of the GFS model.

How will this storm impact Election Day? Well it shouldn’t in terms of actual ability to vote, but with bad weather likely not to roll in until early Wednesday, but could impact voter psychology, and the counties in the Hurricane Watch area will need to active their Emergency Management response systems, potentially impacting election day operations. Worth noting both Broward and Palm Beach counties, huge places with over 1.5 million residents each are in the Hurricane Watch area.
