Key West and the Conch Republic: A brief history

In episode seven of The Florida History Podcast, we delve deep into the history of Key West and the secessionist Conch Republic movement. Despite being geographically isolated, Key West is one of most important locales in Florida’s history. The city which was Florida’s most populated in the late 1800’s has long been a magnet for Presidents and political leaders. It’s also been strategically important and persistently independent-minded.
