How many historical sites does your county have?

Recently at this site we’ve emphasized a renewal of interest in Florida history. We’ve launched the weekly Florida History Podcast while offering more written work on historical topics than any time in the past.

Thanks to the research work of Wikipedia users we have an approximate list of how many sites that are listed on the National Historic Register of Place (NHRP) are in each Florida county.

As indicated by the above map, Miami-Dade County has far more NHRP sites than any other county. In fact if the City of Miami were it’s own county it would rank sixth in the state – the city of Miami has 75 NHRP sites itself, more than 62 of Florida’s 67 counties.

The top ten in the state are in order, Miami-Dade, Volusia, Hillsborough, Duval, Sarasota, Palm Beach, Polk, Leon, Pinellas, Alachua.
