Southwest Florida- why is this densely populated area so Republican?

Almost 2 1/2 million people live south of the Tampa Bay area along the west coast of Florida. This area routinely gives Republicans it’s biggest majorities in the state and is among the biggest reasons Florida has gone from being a purple to a red state. Ignoring a large populated area has been catastrophic for the Democrats. It’s the exurbs stupid.
