Some smart south Florida pols have told me this for over a year, and I always laughed it off. Well, Axios is now reporting in detail on Suarez’s plans.

Suarez is a bit of an odd duck, but maybe a ready made candidate. A GOPer, he’s played more TV pitchman to promote Miami, than actual substantive administrator. He’s been a moderate who has cultivated good relationships not only with Democrats in office, but also with Democratic donors.

A native Miamian (the first ever to be elected Miami, which tells you how transient Miami has always been), he is ideologically mispositioned to run for the GOP nomination. But he’s incredibly telegenic, and would tick a lot of boxes for a party with major image problems.
