Azul Brazilian Airlines has added a second daily flight from Sao Paulo
Campinas-Viracopos to Fort Lauderdale three days a week. In December 2014, Azul underscored the importance of Florida to Brazilian commerce by making Fort Lauderdale and Orlando its first two international destinations. The first flight to Fort Lauderdale has been so successful that the airline is adding additional capacity on the route.
Azul is South America’s fourth-largest airline. Founded by David Neeleman, the former JetBlue CEO , Azul has in seven short years become one of the largest carriers in the Americas and currently has 17% of the domestic market share in Brazil.
In other Florida aviation news, a local push is underway for Tampa to obtain nonstop flights to San Francisco. The pair of cities is the largest undeserved nonstop market in the country. By comparison, two airlines fly nonstop from Orlando to San Francisco and three different airlines fly nonstop from Fort Lauderdale to San Francisco. Tampa even has nonstop service to Seattle/Tacoma, a market which averages fewer passengers a day than San Francisco.
Good for Azul adding second Fort Lauderdale-Brazil flight, increasing their flight may wield a nice quota.
