Legislator of the Week: Rep. Randolph Bracy

Today, we begin a new weekly feature during session honoring the best progressive legislator from the previous week. In this particular case, our first award, this is a cumulative award from the first three weeks of the 2013 Legislative Session.

Orange County Freshman Rep. Randolph Bracy III came through a highly competitive mulch-candidate House primary to win the seat more or less vacated by progressive champion Geraldine Thompson who was elected to the Senate (Redistricting shifted the Orange County districts substantially but the current HD-45 is more or less the successor district of the former HD-39). Bracy was viewed with a  degree of suspicion both by progressive activists and public school activists during the primary but has proven to be a reliable and steady voice in favor of progressive principles in session’s early weeks.

The freshman class of Democrats this year thanks largely to redistricting is the largest since the 2001 session. Bracy is showing signs of becoming an important leadership voice within that group thanks to his outspoken advocacy of progressive principles in committee and among other Democrats.

Keep an eye on Randolph Bracy, a rising star and our first recipient of TFS’ Legislator of the Week Award.

  1. Rep. Bracy made us proud during the House and Choice Innovation Subcommittee hearing on the parent trigger bill. Thank you, Rep. Bracy! And congratulations on your new baby!
