While Florida’s capital city was spared what was feared the Tampa Bay area, long on the “clean” side of Gulf hurricanes has experienced an event potentially unrivaled in the modern history of Florida Hurricanes. Never in recent US History has a metropolitan area as large as the Tampa/St Pete MSA dealt with the sort of storm surge event that Helene brought to an urban area of over three million people. We discuss this.
