Florida aviation news – Key West being ramped up

United Airlines will bring 737-700’s into Key West this winter with two nonstop daily flights to Newark and single dailies to Chicago (O’Hare), Houston (Bush) and Washington (Dulles). Second daily flights to Chicago and Washington will be flown with a regional jet. Given Key West’s shortish runway, the 737-700 is the largest plane that can realistically serve the airport.

Red Way is adding Tampa service from Lincoln Nebraska twice weekly in December.

Flair will add nonstop flights from Sanford to London (Ontario), St Johns, Winnipeg and Windsor this winter. These are really cool adds. Also Flair will enter the crowded Fort Lauderdale-Toronto (Pearson) market which now has SEVEN airlines flying nonstop.

Air Canada is dropping Quebec City to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando nonstop service.

Delta is adding rare non-hub flights, with single dailies from Orlando and West Palm Beach to White Plains, NY.

Avelo is dropping Orlando to Charlottesville service and closing Charlottesville as a station.

Wikipedia has erroneously reported that Spirit’s Fort Lauderdale-Lima service ends in September. In fact, per Cirium data for the winter IATA season, the route is being flown, so the assumption must be that the route isn’t flown in September and October per the citation link on Wikipedia.
