Governor DeSantis has per national media, embarked on a reboot of his campaign given his sinking poll numbers and inability to win over GOP primary voters in key early states.

Not only is the communications strategy shifting slightly but it looks like a campaign that’s acting like a business trying to avoid filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Shedding staff and doing things that look cost-cutting measures make sense after we learned how bad DeSantis “churn and burn” rate was in the last quarter. But at the same time it smacks of desperation, for the candidate GOP elites had anointed as the party’s “savior.”

My own contacts within Trump-sphere indicate they know they have DeSantis on the ropes and have been playing up in recent days DeSantis poor record on insurance in the state as well as the conflicts-of-interest involved in his Governorship and campaign. Yes, it’s a bit of projection given Trump’s own legal woes, but the reality is this – DeSantis does nothing but project all the time.

It was most interesting to see Congressman Greg Steube forcefully wade into this debate, because despite being an ideological hard-line conservative, Steube is someone I do know is a bit of a policy wonk for right-wing ideas, and so he knows DeSantis inaction in insurance is catastrophic for the state.

EVERY SINGLE POLICY DECISION OR NON-DECISION DESANTIS MAKES IN RECENT YEARS INVOLVES CASH FOR HIS CAMPAIGN. EVERY SINGLE ONE.

Quite frankly I don’t recall a single elected official that served at the state or federal level where I could say this, even though we have had some really horrible people in public office.

Meanwhile if you observe the social media accounts of the Governor and his acolytes, nothing is changing from an optics. The Governor continues to attack DEI even though his polices on this are putting Florida’s retirees and state workers in financial jeopardy (but again this involves campaign money, a topic probably for another day), talking about Bud Light, and attacking VP Kamala Harris.

So it feels like the “reboot” is doomed to failure. DeSantis just can’t help himself. We’ll have more on why he cannot help himself in a day or two.

Trump is crushing DeSantis because for all his faults, he realizes economic anxieties drive the electorate. DeSantis can not speak that language if he tried & his economic record has been catastrophic for the working class.

And his donors force him to stay in the elitist gilded age-like mode of crushing the working class.

I am going to stress again that I don’t like Trump and don’t want him to be president but I can tell you this – our country survived his presidency once and will again if just barely, but it will not survive a DeSantis Presidency. Not only will all the social issues be played more prominently but more importantly for me, the middle class will be completely hollowed out by DeSantis Presidency. We won’t survive.

He is the definition of a crony capitalist who opposes both the traditional free market conservatism and health/social programs that liberals advocated for years. He is something completely new, reckless and dangerous.
