Trump’s record for Florida isn’t a good one.

Donald Trump has been effectively hitting Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis from the left. Hitting DeSantis on Social Security, Medicare, Health Care, Insurance, cost-of-living, high rent, etc, etc. Quite frankly, recently Donald Trump has sounded like the best Florida Democrat. But Trump in fact has a mixed record from a progressive-populist standpoint. He advocated high tariffs and spent government resources subsidizing industry, while intervening in monetary policy – all of this seems Keynesian to a certain extent, but similarly Trump compiled a typical GOP record similar to Governor DeSantis on some key issues for our state:

  • Every single year he was in office, Trump proposed cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
  • Trump made every effort to overturn the Affordable Care Act, which could have jeopardized the health care of over 1.5 million Floridians and threatened the protections for those with preexisting conditions.
  • Trump raised taxes on Florida’s working class families while giving more than 40% of the state’s tax cuts to the richest 1% of Floridians.

So perhaps Trump and DeSantis are more similar than they lead on? And neither is really a populist at all.

  1. Yet, we have to wonder at the FloriDUH voter. They vote against their own self interests. Despite years of the GOP telling its voters that the Dems, “Are coming to take your guns,” or, “They’re trying to turn your children Gay,” none of that has happened. HOWEVER, the GOP, (Trump & DeSatan), have raised taxes on middle class, lower middle class, and the poor. They never learn.
