Miami and Florida have generally avoided playing each other in Basketball through the years though both perennially make the postseason. The biggest reason is because both schools usually play in early season tournaments.
In 2019, Miami and Florida will both play in the Charleston Classic. Xavier and UConn will also be in the tournament. The eight team field will also include Towson, St Joseph’s, Penn State and Missouri State. The event will take place November 21-24, 2019. Miami has won the tournament the previous two times they’ve participated in 2009 and 2014. This will be the Gators first appearance.
Florida and Miami last met at a similar event, the Advocare Classic in Orlando in 2016. The Gators won that meeting. The last home-and-home series between the teams was played on campus in 2014 and 2015. Miami won both those meetings.
