In recent years, popular support for capital punishment has declined rapidly in the United States as people’s attitudes have begun to mirror those in the rest of the western world on this issue. Florida has long been one of the leading bastions of support and implementers of the death penalty in the United States.

However, fewer and fewer death sentences are being handed out each year and the Judiciary has seemingly come around to the realization that any mistake in a capital case is one too many.
