Last week, United Airlines and Azul, the shirt sponsor for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers began implementing codesharing agreement. This means Florida residents can book via United Airlines flights to Brazil from Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. Azul passengers will also be able to connect directly on an Azul ticket via Orlando onward to Newark and via Fort Lauderdale onward to Houston on United flights.
American Airlines dominates traffic from Miami to Brazil on routes once flown by United. Delta recently launched Orlando-Brazil flights, so teaming up with Azul gives United customers and Frequent Flier members an option to fly to Brazil and earn mileage credits via Orlando or Fort Lauderdale despite UA not being present on the routes.
