Silver Airways adding more North Florida service

routemapFort Lauderdale-based Silver Airways announced on Monday it is adding new nonstop service from Pensacola to Jacksonville with same-plane service onward to Silver’s hub in Fort Lauderdale. The airline is also adding new service to Panama City with nonstop service to Orlando and Tampa. Last week, Silver announced new service to St Petersburg/Clearwater from Fort Lauderdale and Key West. Silver will also resume Fort Lauderdale-Tallahassee nonstop service in time for legislative session and college spring break in late February.

Silver has in the last year picked up many nonstop routes within the state that were abandoned by Southwest Airlines in the Dallas-based carrier’s pull down of short haul flying. After spending more than a decade as Florida’s leading intrastate carrier, Southwest flies just one internal route now in the state, Fort Lauderdale-Tampa. The Panama City-Orlando route is a former Southwest route as is Jacksonville-Fort Lauderdale. Other former Southwest routes flown by Silver include West Palm Beach-Tampa, Fort Myers-Orlando, Orlando-Key West, Tampa-Key West and Fort Lauderdale- Orlando.

Silver is the largest in-state carrier in Florida.
