Over the past 2 years, Floridians have been subjected to the grandiose bragging and credit taking of Governor Rick Scott, RPOF Chairman Lenny Curry and RPOF leadership, claiming that Florida has turned a corner- that we’ve created hundreds of thousands of new jobs and Florida’s economy is on the right track. Thats all well and good, yet its not the truth. Florida’s economy has not turned a corner. Yes, we have have a 6.2% unemployment rate at the present however, the falling rate is mostly due to Floridians dropping out of the workforce rather than finding new jobs that pay a living wage. Many of these who have dropped out of the workforce are the types of highly educated professionals our state should be attracting.
The jobs Governor Scott and his administration are taking credit for are mostly minimum wage or McJobs that are pay minimum are low wages with little (if any) benefits. These are not the jobs we can build a future upon. These are not the high tech, green tech, nor high paying jobs that will lead to broader and stronger recovery that can be sustained over the next half century.
Over the next 7 days, we here at The Florida Squeeze will be examining Governor Scott’s economy- the numbers, the jobs, and the plans for the future. Additionally, we’ll also be bringing forth new ideas that haven’t been heard nor debated that can help Florida’s economy get on solid ground not just in the short term, but in the long term as well.
Stay tuned, and as usual thanks for reading.

To preserve our State Retirement Pension System. We need to stop the abuse of the system by certain ( Palm Beach ? ) Law Enforcement Agencies. While most play fair. A few game the system by allowing Officers or Deputies to claim off duty job salary ( security , bar bouncers etc. ) as part of their compensation for pension calculations. This allows an Officer from one agency to receive a huge pension check while other Officers receive a much more modest but fair pension. This gaming of the system must stop but no one seems to care .
