Pro Iran Sanctions Ad About Debbie Wasserman Schultz Unfair

These ads that began airing this weekend targeting US Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz are not only dramatic, but wrong. They assume if someone opposes the current batch of sanctions being proposed on Iran, they are anti-Israel and denote a lack of toughness on Iran’s nuclear program.

From the ad

“She says she’s pro-Israel. She says she’s tough on Iran. Then why is she against bipartisan Iran sanctions? Call Debbie Wasserman Schultz and tell her: ‘Stand with Israel and stop standing in the way of Iran sanctions”

This is terribly unfair. First off, being pro-Israel is not determined solely on ones position towards Iran’s nuclear program or the President’s initiative to make agreement with Iran. It is this sort of black and white, two-dimensional view of foreign policy that has allowed some radicalized advocates of Israeli to alienate natural allies who see the Jewish state as the only truly liberal Democracy in a troubled region. Secondly, I could just as easily accuse anyone supporting increased sanctions and hostility towards Iran as being pro-Saudi Arabia. The Saudi regime is among the most oppressive on the planet and no nation save maybe Israel wants to break the back of Iran more than the Saudis. They have interfered in the Syrian Civil War and continue to back rebels that could be influenced by Al-Qaida. The Saudis have also propped up a minority Sunni dictatorship in Bahrain against the wishes of the Shi’a majority population while funding religious schools that breed terrorists in Central and South Asia.

These ads are the worst type of fear tactics impugning the integrity of a Jewish-American member of congress who has been nothing but loyal to the State of Israel. Worse yet it implies anybody who backs allowing diplomacy to work with Iran is “anti-Israel.” By that definition, the entirety of Western Europe is anti-Israel. Moreover, my support for dealings with Iran as an individual who studies this region has ZERO to do with anything related to Israel and largely rests upon my desire to see the USA and the west break free of the Saudi Monarchy and exercise some needed pragmatism and objectivity in our foreign policy towards the Muslim world. The United States has isolated itself in the region by aligning so strongly with the interests of conservative Sunni states and our ability to use soft power in the region has thus declined.

Black and white, simplistic rhetoric cannot be used to discuss complex problems like Iran. Thankfully the administration hasn’t been bullied by this sort of discussion and Debbie Wasserman Schultz deserves credit for standing up against the bullying represented in this ad.

You have no credibility or right to speak about this subject not being Jewish yourself. What DWS is doing Is putting partisan politics and a loyalty to a pro Arab president above the security of Israel. Iran is the greatest threat to the Jewish people since Hitler. By extension you are taking a position that could lead to the extermination of the Jewish race. Self hating Jews have been a trend throughout human history. That is why our numbers are so low and we are today we are so concerned. For a Jewish American politician to put her political party above her ethnicity and religion is a cardinal sin.

I wouldn’t expect you to understand this as you are not Jewish and you are from a race of people who are so numerous that you never have to worry about this sort of thing.

Besides your racism clouds your analysis also. Anything you write about Saudi Arabia implies that you want to oppose the Saudi’s because of their support for Pakistan and hence opposition to India. You are just as bad.
