Cypress Gardens! Another old Florida classic.
In the late 1960s St Petersburg’s Bayfront Center was considered an architectural marvel. The facility hosted the 1996 Vice Presidential Debate before being demolished in 2004.
Before Disney World came to the state, Silver Springs was perhaps the leading Florida attraction. Today it is endangered thanks to environmental neglect. This was the original Florida tourist spot.
Looks like the opening scene from the 1964 James Bond classic Goldfinger … It’s Miami Beach in its glamour days of course!
Hugh Taylor Birch State Park in Fort Lauderdale once had a great train ride. It was shut down in the 1980s.
Nothing said Florida in the 1960s as much as Cape Canaveral, NASA and the space program.
