I think this is a terrible idea but like that you said economic and environment issues are more important than hubs and abortion. At least you get that much.

Guess what. Abortion is an economic issue. But don’t mind us, the little ladies will go back to the kitchen where we belong.

I don’t disagree with you Susan and am 100% pro-choice. But I think of some of our former Dem leaders in Congress, some of the best were Roman-Catholic pro-union Dems like David Bonior, and Dick Gephardt who were anti-choice (Gephardt eventually flipped as time went on) so I don’t want to lose those types.

This having been said I agree completely that abortion is generally an economic issue which is why the Hyde Amendment is so offensive.

On guns I am as militantly anti-guns as they come and am even a vegetarian so that tells you what I think of hunting. But if we want to win rural districts we need to allow for some exceptions on this. Conversely, Republicans who are from urban areas and vote against gun control are sell-outs.

Abortion is a non-negotiable issue for progressive women. Why would our reproductive rights be optional? WTF???

Susan-This is a conversation I have been having with Kartik since we met. I “came of age” politically during Planned Parenthood v Casey, so I never considered it to be a partisan issue. And it is an issue I will never give anyone a pass on. But I will keep on him-His position on marriage equality has come around since I met him!

Reproductive rights are absolutely an economic issue for women. Access to the pill changed the economic game for women. The confluence of Title IX, Roe V. Wade, and access to birth control all contributed to expanding women’s economic opportunities. We can’t allow our nation to backslide on women’s rights.
