Legislative power grab regarding FHSAA appears dead for 2013

The legislature’s attempted power grab regarding High School athletics and activities in the state appears to have been averted for 2013. The Senate we are told is unlikely to hear the legislation today. Senator Kelli Stargel had pushed the measure which passed the House 89-26 with bi-parsitan support before a public backlash ensued. This website argued strongly against the legislation which would have placed the Legislature in control of the most important decisions regarding High School athletics throughout the state. The legislation continued a pattern of legislative interference in the matters of outside organizations that govern various activities in the state of Florida.
