Silver Airlines which is the only airline offering intra-Florida services that aren’t specifically tied to a hub (Southwest flights from Orlando, American flights from Miami and Spirit flights from Fort Lauderdale are run in order to feed connections not to carry origin & destination passengers from those cities to other Florida ones) has filed for bankruptcy.
Silver’s utility is especially important for getting passengers from Tallahassee and Pensacola to other parts of the state if they do not want to drive. Additionally, their services to Key West have been historically popular but in the last few years they have cut all services to Daytona Beach, Fort Myers, Jacksonville and West Palm Beach.
My guess is that the feed they provide at Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa is still valuable for the likes of United who previously counted Silver as a United Express carrier and don’t have a hub in the state.
The big question is will anyone invest in keeping Silver going, as these small regional carriers have largely disappeared throughout the country. Only time will tell but we will keep an eye on it here.

You mentioned United, but do they codeshare with anyone right now? I thought they had previously, but those ended (happy to be corrected here).
That said, I wonder if we won’t see them brought under the umbrella of UA* or even Envoy?

I don’t know if they’re code sharing with anyone other than maybe JetBlue on certain flights out of Fort Lauderdale to the islands but within Florida I don’t think they’re codesharing with anyone

It was their decision to abandon UA Express – a bad strategic move. they thought they could provide feed to multiple carriers instead of being locked into a relationship with United but the carriers that genuinely need feed in Florida already have their own ways of providing that.

Gotcha and thanks! Wouldn’t be the first time hubris has brought down a carrier.
