What made this a gaffe was that it was a true statement but just not politically correct. White Americans are not reproducing to keep up with population growth. If you look at Japan, Europe and Russia, these countries are doomed because they do not or soon will not have the young populations to support their aging populations. In America, the average number of children in a family is supposed to be 2+. With many single children and women choosing to not have children, America faces a crisis.

Jeb Bush is correct about Hispanic immigrants. They place an importance on family that Americans no longer do, so they would prove to be a valuable contribution to our society. When he said they are “more fertile,” he wasn’t discussing their biological abilities but rather the objective fact that they have more children than native Americans.

This statement will likely prove to be problematic for Jeb when paleo-conservatives weigh in. Some like Pat Buchanan and others are concerned that White America is not reproducing at adequate rates, while non-White Americans are reproducing at much greater rates. This is why Whites will be a minority in a few short decades. Jeb’s comments may invite backlash from conservatives that don’t want to see America’s Hispanic population growing. We’ll see.
