Our crack research team has uncovered the numerous federal and state of Florida donations by Harry Sargeant III the subject of today’s excellent Lucy Morgan piece in the Tampa Bay Times. Our chart includes all donations made between 2000 and 2008 to either federal of state of Florida races. We have not researched donations by Sargeant to state campaigns outside Florida as of yet.
Sargeant was an important Republican donor, but not an uber-GOP donor like some other individuals. His contributions indicate he is a loyal Republican with the exception of his donations to former Florida Congressman Robert Wexler (D-Boca Raton). Sargeant’s long term relationship with former Governor Charlie Crist led to numerous Crist donations and at least indirectly to him becoming the RPOF Finance Chairman.
Below is the full list of donations since between 2000 and 2008.

That is great that Sargeant gave Wexler money just behind for he resigned…that explains a lot.

Kartik you are an a-hole to publish this. Crist is our best shot our only shot of beating Rick Scott. Linking Crist with this guy is not fair. He gave $ to lots of Republicans including Jeb Bush. The Wexler shot is not nice also.

So Democrats should totally ignore all of Crist’s baggage?
LikeLike
Crist’s baggage is REPUBLICAN baggage. It’s the RPOF who has the problem thus Rick Scott has the problem. You people need to wake up. Crazy liberals like Nan Rich can’t win. We need a proven vote getter. We need a moderate. We need someone who has actually won votes outside south and central Florida. We need Charlie Crist!

Crist’s baggage is CRIST’S own baggage you idiot! Cannot you see this?

I’m not the one linking Crist to him. The links are apparent for anyone to see. This blog does not have enough influence to suddenly damage Crist’s electability over “revelations” that have been in the public domain for years.

Hitching our wagon to Crist will only keep the Greet issues alive while angering the activists who work hard every day. Forget Charlie.

Hey Beat Rick Scott….you are an a-hold for trying to deny the facts. There is no linking talk to Crist, Harry….read and FYI he did give lots of $ to Republcians but Wexler and Crist took the $. Maybe you should find a Democrat/Independent that does not have blood on their hand. Not nice is taking this money and pretending you are against Iraq. Was Wexler against or for Iraq before or after he took the money from Sargeant?

Wexler voted for the Iraq War. He was for it before he was against it.

Wexler voted for the Iraq War and his allies locally strongly advocated for it. He like many prominent Democrats later changed his position.

No get another candidate! Crist will never win! He is a piece of shit and a dirty son of bitch. Any one but Crist and Scott…..Crist will take the entire party down with him

BEAT RICK SCOTT…..You are an idiot! Tell your Dumocrats to go find someone who is a Democrat and is not dirty with war money in his pocket. You are an idiot to blame the writer of this blog. The only way to change anything is know what is going on.
The devil is in the detail and obviously the money is in the pockets of both parties from Sargeant. Someone needs to send this to Rachel Maddow ASAP!

We need Charlie. Who else can beat Rick Scott??? Did you see the poll this week? He crushes all the liberals and struggles against Charlie! We’ve gotten the most popular elected official in the state to switch parties and you but you but jobs reject him. Insanity. We beat Scott with Crist! We lose otherwise! How tough is that to grasp???

the poll this week had the race between Scott and Crist in a dead heat. Unlike Crist who has been defined to the electorate another Democrat would have greater upside, an opportunity to write the narrative for the campaign. If the Democrats run a Democrat against the incumbent Rick Scott, Scott’s record is the issue. If the Democrats run Crist against Scott, Crist becomes the issue. Maybe that is a winning formula. I however think Scott’s negatives are high and he can be beaten although I would caution those thinking he’s a goner to say that many incumbents around the country have recently had similar poll numbers to the Governor and been reelected. Rick Scott I believe is not as poorly positioned for reelection as many think, thus it is important our party gets this nomination right.

Sadly I think we need to lay off Charlie. We want to get rid of Rick Scott don’t we? Without any other viable candidates no bench as Kartik has put it before how exactly do we expect to accomplish that with another untested candidate?

I’d rather lose to Rick Scott again and build for 18 with a revitalized party than put charLIE back in the Governor’s Mansion just because he now has a “D” next to his name!

Crist’s nomination would seal our fate as a party with zero moral compass that is a magnet for losers.

Kartik all this does is hurt the Democrats and help Rick Scott. Charlie will be our candidate next year.
Angry liberals and activists will not win us back the Governors Mansion. Charlie Crist will. He can build a bi-partisan anti-Scott coalition to push moderate, common sense ideas back into Florida.
We know why Pam Bondi wanted to badly push the Greer trial into all the papers. It would directly benefit Scott. Now that the trial is over you of all people the self annoited voice of the left should get with the program and get behind the one Democrat that can bring us victory in 2014,
CHARLIE CRIST!

Not what I’d call “big” contributions to Charlie Crist…..$3,000 in 2006 and $2,500 in 2002 (as a Republican)! Hell in comparison he gave Wexler a Democrat $8,000. When you consider the guy gave other Republicans more than $175,000……he must not have liked Charlie very much to give him only $5,500! If you’re trying to give an impression Charlie was in this guy’s pocket….that’s pretty damn lame!

really lame.

Remember contributions to state candidates is capped at $500 a pop whereas Federal are almost 5 times that, so Crist got the most contributions of anyone from Sargeant.
Again perhaps Sargeant despite his long standing friendship with Crist will not back him in 2014 should he run since he is a Democrat. But being a Democrat did not stop him from giving to Rob Wexler.

Democrats are STUPID if they really think Charlie Crist who has become a total joke can beat Rick Scott. They are in an alternate reality not realizing how weak and pathetic he’s become.

The Democrats are beyond stupid. Lets push a candidate who has 20 years of voting the wrong way, tied to the war profit guy, wife won’t see her children and who is clearly make Rick Scott look normal at this point. Wexler all together is a joke. Slim fast wtf?

You are on drugs if you think Crist is walking into that office. So who is lying the party or Crist:
memo from Florida Democratic Party spokesman Eric Jotkoff:
“Everyone who has followed Florida politics for any length of time knows that Charlie Crist has had his own ethic problems involving questionable fundraising and travel, but recently Florida has seen numerous examples of Crist allowing Republican corruption scandals to continue to fester under his watch.
“Crist’s defense of embattled Speaker Ray Sansom, continued support for his hand picked Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer, and the fact that Crist bundler Harry Sargeant III remains RPOF Finance Chairman proves that while Crist continues smiling for the cameras his out-of-touch optimism and George W. Bush-like inattentiveness have allowed Republican corruption to fester, our economy to tank, and Floridians to suffer. Rather than stepping up to the plate and leading Florida during these tough times, Charlie Crist’s only reaction is to say ‘Next Question.’ ”
The memo continues:
“On the same day that Ray Sansom was sworn in as Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, Northwest Florida State College announced that Sansom was hired for a part-time, $110,000 per year job. As the St. Petersburg Times/Miami Herald Tallahassee Bureau and other media outlets throughout Florida began investigating, we learned that before taking this job, Sansom delivered more than $25-million to the college and pushed legislation to allow the school to offer 4 year degrees.
“The Times/Herald reported that more than $6-million of the money he delivered to the college was to build a hangar at the Destin Airport, on land controlled by Sansom’s friend and major donor Jay Odom. Despite being funded by taxpayer dollars, this hangar would be used by Odom most of the time to store his jets according to the Times/Herald, citing documents and Odom’s airport operations manager. The Palm Beach Post uncovered the fact that Sansom used his government office to fax in his job application to the college as well.

Lets be real. When Scott runs and if Crist is the candidate, Scott will expose ALL the corruption of the party which in turn will clean up the mess that the Rs have put us in while the Democrats are still trying to cover up the corruption of South Florida…including Sargeant, Wexler and Crist. Didn’t Johnson do Wexler’s campaign? Like I said they all should hide before they are caught.
