As we reported earlier this week, the PGA of America was contemplating moving its headquarters from Florida to Texas. Well now the news is official. 

“Our move to Frisco will be transcendent for the PGA of America,” said PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh in a statement. “Everything great starts with a dream. This is the beginning of a bold, new journey as we bring together world-class partners in a world-class location — to deliver innovative and differentiated experiences for our nearly 29,000 PGA Golf Professionals, golfers of all abilities and our staff.”

Texas will get multiple major championship played in the state out of the deal as well as hundreds of new jobs and some prestige. Frisco, Texas the PGA’s new home also recently saw the opening of the new National Soccer Hall of Fame in addition to being the home of Toyota Stadium,  arguably the premier High School Football venue in the suburban Dallas area. 

As for us in Florida, we still are the home of the PGA Tour, based in Ponte Vedre and LPGA Tour based in Daytona Beach. However, the state has not hosted a “major” golf tournament since 1987. The PGA Tour’s biggest event the Players Championship is played annually in Ponte Vedra and until recently a World Golf Championship event was held at Doral in Miami – that was until Donald Trump bought the course and the event was moved to Mexico.
