Volusia County successful in bringing Silver Airways to Daytona Beach

The recent decision by JetBlue to withdraw Daytona Beach to New York (JFK) service effective January 7 has now been offset by the addition of Silver Airways at the Central Florida airport.

Beginning in mid-January 2019, Silver will offer nonstop service from Daytona Beach to Fort Lauderdale. From there, Daytona Beach originating passengers can connect to the Avianca, JetBlue and United networks, allowing seamless connectivity to points throughout the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Volusia County Council voted earlier today to give Silver a year worth of incentives to launch the service. Flights will be once daily and timed specifically to connect to other airlines services beyond Fort Lauderdale.

The Daytona News-Journal reports the County Council has waived landing fees for a year as well as agreeing to budget $50,000 of county money to market the new service.

Avoiding the drive down to Orlando International Airport to catch flights is a priority for many Volusia County residents and businesses. Even the single flight to Fort Lauderdale allows locals to fly from a nearby airport and connect onward to destinations served nonstop from Orlando.
