The names of those who have signed this letter about former Congressman Robert Wexler’s new lobbying relationship with the Turkish Government headed by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan have been withheld in order to protect the anonymity of those who privately have expressed concerns. The letter was released to The Florida Squeeze under that condition. The content of this letter signed by several Palm Beach County Democratic activists and other stakeholders around the state has been unedited other than the omitting of the signatories.

 To: Terrie Rizzo

Chair, Palm Beach County Democratic Executive Committee

Chair of the Florida Democratic Chairs Association

According to recent news reports, former Democratic Congressman Robert Wexler is now working with the Republican-led lobbying firm Ballard Partners to represent the interests of the Turkish government and its leader, President Erdogan. This is unacceptable.

We the undersigned urge the Palm Beach Democratic Executive Committee must to speak out against and he must be condemned/censured/reprimanded for it condemn/censure, reprimand Mr. Wexler for it.
Palm Beach County has a long history of electing Democrats to office, working with clubs and getting out the vote for those who share our principles. After reading the local Miami Herald and The Florida Squeeze, it was brought to our attention that Congressman Wexler is working with a Republican firm (who has been on the payroll of the Democratic party) representing President Erdogan of Turkey.
Turkey has committed caused numerous human rights violations including torture, corruption and anti-Semitism. Erdogan’s government has since come under fire for human rights violations and crackdown on press and social media, having blocked access to Twitter, Facebook and YouTube on numerous occasion occasions. Journalists and opposition politicians have criticized his authoritarian tendencies; more journalists have been incarcerated in Turkey than in any other country, including North Korea.

In addition, Mr. Wexler who never would condemn the Armenian Genocide, like Erdogan denies that 1.5 million Armenians were killed. In addition, in 2013, Erdogan was placed second on the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s list of the year’s top ten anti-Semitic personalities, after Erdogan blamed the “interest rate lobby” as organizers of the mass protests against him in cities around the country in June 2013. We ask that you not just to condemn the actions of the President of Turkey but also the actions of Congressman Wexler. We ask for a public statement from the DEC which is the leadership of the party of self-expression, civil liberties, labor unions and equality for all people.
In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. -Martin Luther King, Jr.
Thank you.

    1) This is the most poorly written letter, and someone needs to learn to edit before they hit send and 2) He is no longer an elected official, does not live here, and has nothing to do with Florida anymore…so why does the party need to do anything?

  2. My heroes were Dick Gephardt and Tom Daschle …so look how they did after serving.

    Jimmy Carter model is rare.
Lose faith in all these people.

    1. I was stunned to see where Gephardt landed – with the most insider and corporate interests and clients. Dascle surprised me less- I never totally trusted him but Gephardt SHOCKED me. Always thought he and Bonior were a rare breed, and House Dems at the time were the bastion of light but he sold out.

Jimmy Carter is the best. The absolute model public servant in this country’s modern history.

  3. Pos Wexler is still involved in party politics. Don’t worry there is a paper trail and it leads for Rs and Ds back to PBC

  5. I think the text of the letter was just fine. Genuine. I think those that crafted the letter are hurt by the present associations of Wexler…blindsided by the difference in what he said to garner votes, and what his current actions depict. Well, that’s America and those people behind the letter are good Americans…but in the end, saying what they think will have been their only victory. Wexler doesn’t care and the lobby firm appreciates the publicity. I wonder what firm Debbie Schultz will hook up with?
