What we are reading: MIA and FLL are growing like never before, and that means one thing: cheap flights
The Miami Herald
has a lengthy story today on the unprecedented growth of the two major airports in southeast Florida. Both are now among the 50 busiest airports in the world and Miami (MIA) is attracting lots of low cost carriers (which was previously the exclusive domain of Fort Lauderdale) while Fort Lauderdale (FLL) is attracting full-service international airlines (which used to be the exclusive domain of Miami). The net result is more choices and lower fares for South Florida fliers and international options aplenty from both major local airports – a situation unparalleled in the US outside the competition between Newark’s Liberty International and New York’s JFK Int’l.
